Autumn Term 1

In our first half-term of French we will be: 


  • practising how to meet and greet people
  • introducing ourselves
  • learning the alphabet
  • asking and giving ages
  • learning the days of the week and the months of the year
  • saying when we have our birthday


In terms of phonics we will be:


  • practising the 'in', 'on', 'un' sound
  • practising the vowel combinations 'eu','oi'
  • learning about silent letters



To further our cultural undertanding we will be learning about the geography of France and

you will be able to name and spell and locate its main cities, rivers and mountains.

 In our second half-term of French we will be:

  • exploring the idea noun gender
  • learning how to use 'a' , 'the' and 'some'
  • understanding instructions



In terms of cultural understanding we will be learning about Christmas time in France and even learning some French Christmas songs.

 The topic this week is the classroom. We will be learning to ask for equipment that we might need. We will see that some words are masculine and others feminine and that there are three ways to ask a question!

The basic rule is that adjectives to describe size or beauty go in front of the noun being described, wheras colours always go after the noun,
